Part Willy Wonka, part Gaudí homage, part grandma’s attic, this house nestled in upstate New Jersey is 100% unique. Home to artist Ricky Boscarino, it’s been a work in progress since 1989 when Boscarino began to convert a small cabin into the crazy maze the house is today.

Several times a year the artist opens up the house, granting access to the grounds and all area of his home where visitors can marvel at the mosaics, art, and collections that cover the interior and exterior, including balconies that overlook the surrounding area.

After giving an introduction to his work, he stays available to answer questions (and even turn the shower on for curious visitors).

The spectacular bathroom is not only the most photographed bathroom in New Jersey, but contains an amazing free standing shower, gorgeous stained glass, and an impressive collection of wooden penises.

That is just one of many off-the-wall collections that include glass eyes, taxidermy, bread clips, mannequins, and even a recess where the artist’s ashes will eventually be interred.

The wine cork-lined kitchen is fantastic!

In addition to the living spaces, a downstairs room contains a shop full of the artist’s ceramics, paintings, and jewelry.

There is plenty to see on the grounds, and an adjacent property houses interns as part of the foundation’s educational mission.
