An easy, fun way to liven up a stay in Paris is to keep an eye peeled for small artworks throughout the city by the French artist, Invader. There are around 1500 of these pixilated tile mosaics, many of which depict characters from arcade games that the artist has been placing around the city since the 1990’s. You can find them everywhere, from walls to monuments to columns and fountains – anywhere that’s flat enough to stick the custom tile works.

If you’re the methodical type, there are maps of the locations online, or you can just leave encounters to chance. To add a competitive aspect, the artist has a free app, FlashInvaders, that can confirm identity, “collect” works, and receive points.

Invader mosaics are no longer limited to Paris, and can now be found in cities across the globe. We found these in Brussels and Rotterdam.
