Organ Macy's Philadelphia

Note: As of 2025 Macy’s has moved out, so not sure what is happening with the organ and concerts. Check social media for the latest updates.

Of all the places to listen to an organ concert, a Macy’s department store probably isn’t the first place to pop into your mind.  Yes – the world’s largest fully functioning pipe organ is not in a church, it’s right here in Philadelphia. There’s no seating – the best you can do is sit on the floor, squeezed into an alcove in the girl’s clothing section.  Yet, M-Sa at noon and 5:30 you can listen to a FREE concert played on the world’s largest organ by a master organist.

Opened in 1911, and dedicated by President Taft, Wanamaker’s was the first department store in Philadelphia – and one of the first in the country. On the National Register of Historic Places, the interior of building is gorgeous.

During the holidays they host a low tech light show, with the 12:00 show ending with the finale played on the organ.Christmas in PhillyHoliday Light Show Macys Philadelphia
