Come for the mission, stay for the food.
The goal of this black-owned restaurant in North Philly is to reduce recidivism by hiring formally incarcerated folks, paying them fair wages, training them to become chefs – all while serving outstanding, Detroit-style pizza.

And the hand-cut, spicy crab fries…..🤤🤤 (yup-actual crab + sautéed kale). One order is definitely a meal.

Plus, milkshakes and lemonade.

They do occasional collaborations and specials, so follow on Instagram for updates.
A bit off the regular tourist route, the restaurant is less than a 5 minute drive from West Laurel Hill Cemetery (where you could take your pizza for a slightly spooky picnic).
I’m still a bit on the fence about Detroit style pizza. I made it once and it was fine, but I definitely prefer thin crust (NY style is my favourite). At least it’s crispy on the bottom, unlike Ohio pizza, which is both thick and soggy. 🤢 I’d give it a go though, and would definitely have a milkshake!

Almost like two totally different kinds of food, thin crust and thick crust are so different. I’m not a huge pizza fan either way. My son got the pizza, I got fries and a milkshake. Everyone was happy!
