This new fun and funky place off Passyunk is a great place to try birria tacos. Cheesy, soft, and crispy – all dunked in a cup of their super flavorful consommé. For the ultimate experience, get the ramen & taco meal. The consommé is turned into ramen with a birria taco served alongside – one of my favorite meals of 2021.

They also get a big thumbs-up from Tobey for their vegan birria tacos; one of the few places serving birria that is vegetarian friendly.

Prices are higher than your average taco place – the owner is on a mission to highlight equity issues in the restaurant industry- and is paying her employees a living wage with insurance and time off.

Fun decor, plus the most colorful drinks fridge. Limited seating, so have a back-up dining plan. Check Instagram for opening times.
Birria tacos aren’t too big in London yet, so I had investigate further. I did find one place that makes them, but of course no vegetarian version. 😦 I make tofu chilaquiles a lot though, and these look like the same sort of saucy fried tortilla deliciousness, so I might have to make a veggie version at home to try them out. The vegan ones in your photo look great!

Crispy cheese and consommé for dipping… one of my favorite food finds for 2021, when they first started getting popular in Philly. I’ve had the beef ones a few times now, but Tobey was so excited to find a place that made a vegetarian friendly version.

Made vegetarian birria tacos tonight with walnut/tofu taco “meat”, chili pepper and tomato consomme, and cheese (actual cheese, since I’m not vegan). They were really delicious, would definitely eat again!
